How to Choose the Right Boxing Glove Size
How to Choose the Right Boxing Glove Size
Boxing gloves are usually sold by weight, which is measured in ounces. The correct weight depends less on hand size and more on what you are doing in training. Bag work, pads and sparring all place different demands on your glove choice.
Quick oz guide
- 10oz to 12oz: commonly used for pads, technique work and some bag sessions
- 14oz: a versatile middle ground for many adults
- 16oz: often preferred for sparring because of the extra padding
That said, brand fit matters too. Some gloves feel compact, others feel roomier, and some offer more wrist support than others.
Match glove size to how you train
If you do mostly bag work, you may prefer a lighter training glove. If you spar regularly, heavier gloves are usually the safer choice. Coaches and gyms may also have their own requirements, so it is worth checking before you buy.
